What will Alfa Romeo bring to Paris?

In a nutshell, not much, basically all they’re bringing is their current range and the only new stuff over there will be a batch of engines for the Giulietta.
Alfa Romeo Giulietta
The brand is celebrating its 100th birthday this year and just about everybody is well aware of that and yet the press release to come from Alfa Romeo is limited to new engines.

Hoping that’s not everything, we’re going to go through those official announcements, namely the brand new 140 horsepower 2.0 JTDM and the 170 horsepower 1.4 MultiAir turbo petrol with “Alfa TCT” automatic transmission versions of the Giulietta.
The new JTDM unit will be housed in the glamorous Giulietta will get a gas mileage of 4.5 lt/100 km (the equivalent of 52.3 mpg US) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 119 g/km while the we have no news on the petrol engined we’re guessing eco friendliness will be less appealing. Either way, the dry twin clutch transmission will help all figures for the car, the performance, the comfort and the economy.

Keeping to their lack of impressiveness from the release the Milanese have also announced that they will be bringing in a couple of MiTo sport hatches and the 2011 model year versions of the 159 sedan and Sportwagon, one of which will be sporting a “Rosso Competizione” livery.

Alfa Romeo V8 Monza Overview

The first part of the title seems very interesting whereas the latter doesn’t quite cut the mustard. An Alfa Romeo with a V8 engine sounds terribly good.
IDECORE Alfa Romeo V8 Monza
IDECORE is an association of independent designers and modelers who couldn’t come up with a better take on summing up “Ideas, concepts, relationships” than an acronym.

The naming isn’t that important unless you’re talking about their latest concept, the Alfa Romeo V8 Monza. The Alfa Romeo part is pretty clear and gets you thinking beautiful Italian design and the sort of vehicle that’ll definitely stir up some emotions.
The V8 part means there’s some serious power under that beautiful badge and the fact that there’s a Monza badge on it should mean the power will be well tamed by a great chassis tuned to it’s finest on the infamous circuit.
Makes for a rather tasty mix I’d say. It could also mean that Alfa Romeo could launch a competitor for the BMW 6 Series, the Mercedes CL and whoever else may want to join that league.
There’s one important aspect to look into upon hoping for this car to happen even more than the desire the looks generate. Chrysler will be sharing some platforms with Alfa Romeo, the Italians plan to return to the US market and a vehicle like the Alfa Romeo V8 Monza pretty much does everything.

New Alfa Romeo has meets Avatar scenery

It seems that Alfa Romeo just keeps on celebrating their centenary by showing off their older models by using ever more interesting methods.
Alfa Romeo Federico B Alliney
So what are they up to this time? Well, not originally they’re featuring their cars in movies. Actually that’s not entirely true as the scenery in these pictures isn’t the sort of things you can see in the actual movie.

Oh no, what the Italians went for is take some of the most beautiful Alfa Romeo models ever made, take some photos of them and then shipped them over to a Mr. Federico B. Alliney for a bit of editing.
Actually make that a lot of editing. If you’re not familiar to the world of photographic editing or with Federico B. Alliney’s work you should know that he’s partially responsible for the the scenery and animation behind the Avatar block buster movie that came out earlier in the year.
With that in mind Alliney had the opportunity to work on stuff like the original 8C 2300, the Disco Volante, Giulia, BAT 9, and even the Carabo concept.
Apparently, the imagery of Alfa Romeos and Avatar or other artsy like backgrounds will be available in a limited series of prints.

Gillet Vertigo Alfa Romeo Powered by Maserati

Gillet Vertigo is a proper supercar, a true exotic, handbuilt, high performance, heritage and so on.
Gillet Vertigo
But you’ve probably never heard of it. You shouldn’t be ashamed of that, it was stuck in my memory as some weird car that I once saw at a racing event.

My not knowing it isn’t enough reason to stop straining your memory but this is. The Gillet Vertigo is a Belgian car, the brainchild of former racing driver Tony Gillet. You’ve probably never heard of him either but that’s ok.
The bottom line is that while the Gillet Vertigo is one of the lightest and fastest cars out there it has been in production for 16 years now. During this time only 25 were sold and a few of those went racing. No wonder you never saw one on the street.
Even so, up until now, the Gillet Vertigo was powered by a superb 3.0 liter V6 which was built by the Italians at Alfa Romeo. The 1994 period has gone and the engine is starting to show it’s strain.
Therefore Gillet Vertigo will soon be using a Maserati powerplant to help its performance. Specifically, the Gillet Vertigo will be powered by the 4.2 liter V8 engine that can be found in the Maserati Gran Turismo.
Seeing how even with an Alfa V6 the Vertigo would reach 62 in 3.3 seconds with only 350 horsepower the Maserati powered Gillet creation should develop at least 450 horsepower and probably hit 62 in less than 3 seconds.
Word of warning though, the lightness, the performance, the Gillet Vertigo itself is let down by two things. Firstly, it’s seriously ugly and secondly, the old one would cost $265.000 so this one should come in at around 300.000 or more…

Fiat & Chrysler team up to maded A new joint venture

I reckon Sergio Marchionne’s efforts in favor of Chrysler are about to shift proceeds over to Fiat as well.
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The latest plan for the two companies involves a joint venture on one of Chrysler’s platforms being sent over to Turin for some work.

The new collaboration will have Chrysler provide the sort of platform that Fiat doesn’t yet have. A platform for large passenger vehicles and SUVs.
This platform will be sent to Turin, over at Fiat Group’s historic Mirafiori plant for a serious makeover. At the end of this Chrysler burger being processed with Fiat pizza we’ll have new flagship models for Jeep and Alfa Romeo.
Imagine that, an Alfa Romeo SUV… I’m slightly sad just saying this but perhaps the Italians will style it so well I’d like it.
Since this is some sort of business situation, €1 billion will change hands as the investments required for the Mirafiori plant to succeed as part of this plan.
What’s weird, for me at least, is that while this car will be developed in Europe on an American platform, the Alfa Romeo SUV and the Jeep flagships will be sold outside of the European Union.

New Rumor of Alfa Romeo Shows its head again

Quite a bit of a while back, rumors of how Alfa Romeo was still loosing money by the truckload were quite popular.
Alfa Romeo 8C Convertible
Naturally, these rumors sparked the sort that speak of Alfa Romeo being sold. VW was mentioned as a possible buyer.

This sparked loads of other rumors and even outrage on behalf of many fans who adore the Italian brand and don’t want it to become something completely dull and German.
Spin the clock a bit into the future and you see the moment when Sergio Marchionne claimed that the selling of Alfa Romeo to Volkswagen was no more than a dream.
This pretty bit of news got the fans settled again.
Now however, fans of the Milan based car maker are getting worried again. Rumors speak of Alfa Romeo being sold to the Germans once again.
On the other hand, there’s even word of Marchionne, defender of the Italian brand’s fans having gone to Germany for some secret negotiations with Volkswagen.
This would possibly be the final nail in the coffin of Alfa Romeo’s future.
I’m not so sure, as long as VW apply the same formula with Alfa Romeo that Lamborghini got from Audi everything should be fine.

Surprise release New Alfa Romeo Design Concept

Without any sort of warning or any rumors, we just found out something of momentous importance. Sort of.
Alfa Romeo MiTo Designer handbag
What we have here is a new Design Concept from Alfa Romeo. Sadly, the Design Concept isn’t actually within the car. It’s the handbag next to it.

That’s right folks, joining the hall of shame, on the same shelves as Ferrari’s Aftershave products, we now have the Alfa Romeo Designer handbags.
Alfa Romeo MiTo Designer handbag
Apparently, as the company’s centenary anniversary’s offspring, Alfa Romeo gave the green light to the design concept bags and they must have forgot about them. Until now.
Trying to ignore the almost incredibly funny situation behind the weird looking bags that are based on the Alfa Romeo MiTo we find that they are about as big as the actual car.
It’s difficult to remain serious, isn’t it? On a brighter side, we’ve found that the entire project is related to Alfa Romeo UK’s efforts in helping students. The handbags were created in order to enter a competition lads that attend the MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins College.
Alfa Romeo MiTo Designer handbag
It sounds wonderful on paper but it seems so moronic in actual reality you can’t help but laugh when you consider an Alfa Romeo MiTo handbag.

Alfa Romeo’s future 4C

With lots of stories that are related to Alfa Romeo being sold to the Germans at Volkswagen or simply rebadging Chryslers, images like these are cheering us up.
Alfa Romeo 4C render
The famous Italian brand, is apparently working on a small sports car, which is supposed to remind us all about the limited edition Alfa Romeo 8C that went before it.

The images we have here have been taken from a video of some rendering rollover of what could be the actual Alfa Romeo sports car.
The original video was uncovered by a dutch automotive website and it was later picked up by the British at Autoexpress.
Alfa Romeo 4C render
As you’d imagine, no official data is available on these spyshot renders and Alfa Romeo themselves aren’t willing to tell us much about it either.
From what the mighty Internet has told us so far, the renders we have here are the product of a chap called Marco Procaccini from MPCarDesign.
He was also the one who confirmed that the render is of an actual project he’s working on for the Italians but he wasn’t able to say whether or not this actually the Alfa Romeo 4C.
Alfa Romeo 4C render
It doesn’t really matter, if Alfa Romeo have something that looks like this in their project lineup we all have reason to be pleased.
