2012 Audi A8 L For Security An Exclusive Model Eddition

Audi is introducing a New 2012 Audi A8 L Security Exclusive Model. At 5.27 meters (17.29 ft) in length, the Audi A8 L Security is a large, representative luxury sedan, hardly distinguishable to the eye from the production version. The LED headlights, which use light-emitting diodes for all functions, lend a striking expression to its front. They are part of the standard package in the Audi A8 L Security W12. The armored sedan’s custom security modifications are performed by hand in a small, well-guarded workshop – on a production floor with specially secured doors, where the use of cellular phones is strictly prohibited. The basis for the high-security car is a previously modified aluminum production body constructed at the Neckarsulm plant as per the Audi Space Frame (ASF) principle.

The Audi A8 L Security has been officially certified by a German-government ballistics testing facility in Munich for compliance with the class VR 7 ballistic protection standard (tested as per BRV 2009 guidelines). The abbreviation BRV stands for Bullet Resistant Vehicles. The car’s resistance to explosions was tested as per ERV 2010 guidelines (ERV = Explosion Resistant Vehicles). Class VR 7 ballistic protection imposes the strictest standards on civilian high-security sedans. The sheet metal and glazing in the passenger cell must withstand firing with NATO hard-core ammunition. In certain areas, the armoring on the Audi A8 L Security even complies with the criteria for class VR 9 and VR 10.
Integrated as a unitized component of the body, the high-security sedan’s safety cell features a convergence of extremely tough, resistant materials – hot-formed armored steel, aramide fabric, ceramics, special alloyed aluminum and multilayer glass. Overlapping protective materials at the joints provide the utmost level of security throughout the occupant cell. The interior armoring weighs approximately 720 kilograms (1,587.33 lb).

The side windows, windshield and rear window are all made of special glass with a polycarbonate coating in the inside to prevent spalling. Optional electromechanical window openers operate the side windows, allowing them to be lowered nearly all the way. The excess weight of the windows amounts to just over 300 kilograms (661.39 lb). A closing assist feature comes standard for the doors – which weigh an additional 360 kilograms (793.66 lb) altogether. A door-stop function holds each door open in any desired position.
For Audi A8 L Security customers, a multitude of special options are available for enhanced security. Among these is the emergency exit system, a technology patented by Audi. Another security feature is the fire extinguisher system, which is activated via heat sensors or by pushing a button. The emergency fresh-air system operates with two oxygen cartridges housed in the protected area. At the push of a button, the system supplies fresh breathing air to the interior via vents in the roof lining. The supply lasts long enough for the car to pass through a danger zone or get out of a danger zone it is currently in. The system works by generating positive pressure in the vehicle interior to prevent toxic gases from penetrating the cabin.
Audi is launching the new Audi A8 L Security with a superb engine – the W12. The direct-injected gasoline engine owes its name to the W-shaped layout of its cylinders – four rows of three cylinders each, merged into two banks. From a displacement of 6.3 liters, the compact, lightweight W12 pumps out 368 kW (500 hp) of power and 625 Nm (460.98 lb-ft) of torque, with the latter readily available at 4,750 rpm. The W12 is captivating, with its smooth running performance, its subtle, musical sound and its power. It accelerates the Audi A8 L Security from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 7.3 seconds. In consideration of the tires, top speed is limited to 210 km/h (130.49 mph). The high-security sedan consumes just 13.5 liters of fuel on average per 100 km (17.42 US mpg) – by far the lowest figure among its direct competitors (performance and consumption figures are preliminary).

The interior of the Audi A8 L Security is captivating, with its spacious design and workmanship on a craftsman’s level. The comfort on board is first class – the standard package includes a four-zone climate control system with an ionizer to freshen the air, electric rear blinds, the sonorous Bose surround sound system and a TV tuner. In the rear are two individual, seats with power adjustment. Also featuring a versatile adjustment range, the front comfort seats offer heating as well as optional massage and ventilation functions. In addition, the Audi A8 L W12 Security comes with a standard full-leather package. Also available is a full-length center console with large storage compartments, complemented by the rear seat entertainment system with two 10.2-inch displays. Optional features such as a folding table, a refrigerator and a parking heater make the time spent in the car even more pleasant.
The 2012 Audi A8 L Security provides luxurious ride comfort. Audi developed its chassis, brake system and electronic control systems specifically for the increased weight; in the wheel control arms. The adaptive air suspension with controlled damping is integrated in the Audi drive select system, which enables fine-tuning of a number of parameters. The optional dynamic steering rounds out the range on offer. The high-security sedan is fitted with standard 19-inch forged wheels featuring a semipolished, two-tone finish. The specially sized 255/720 tires have a high load index of 117. Synthetic rings on the rims allow the vehicle to continue traveling at speeds up to 80 km/h (49.71 mph) even after a malfunction has occurred. A tire pressure monitoring system that continuously checks the settings is also part of the standard equipment.

New Formula Palmer Audi

I guess some times 13 really is an unlucky number. That’s the number of years Formula Palmer Audi managed to “prepare” drivers for the F1 stage before it died off.
Formula Palmer Audi
That’s right folks, one of the most charistmatic stages of a racing driver’s life has been closed off and for quite an unpleasant reason.

The man behind the racing at Formula Palmer Audi is former F1 driver, Jonathan Palmer. With the new rules that the FIA has readied for the Formula 1 championship new things happened pretty much everywhere.
The new rules have had such a massive effect on the automotive industry that VW have changed their mind about a possible F1 team. Further more, the FIA also announced that it will be bringing back the Formula 2 competition.
Formula Palmer Audi
It’s this F2 series that will now be taking up most of Jonathan Palmer’s time. In fact he reckons he’s going to be so busy running that series that he won’t have the time or resources to send into the series that wears his name.
At the end of the line, Formula 2 will most likely prove to be a better trainer for F1 racing drivers than Palmer Audi Racing did but us petrolheads will not forget the series.

2012 Audi A9 Car review

2011′s rumors are sounding better and better. One of the most interesting ones has been confirmed. Audi is actually working on the A9.
2012 Audi A9
The Audi A9 is still far from getting a precise launch date but it has been given an early 2012 estimation. It’s also been given a killer task.

The Audi A9 is going to enter a deadly market, that of luxury performance saloons that look almost like coupe’s. With that in mind, the Audi A9 will be fighting for a piece of market share along side the like of Aston Martin Rapide, Maserati’s (soon to be updated) Quattroporte, Mercedes’ CLS so on and so forth.
2010 Porsche Panamera
While buyers in this market aren’t that many, they are spoiled for choice. But there’s one particular thing about the future Audi A9. It will be competing with the established Porsche Panamera.
That is a problem, unless VW somehow work a way of doing away with one of these cars their companies will be competing against each other.
Much worse of a problem would be in seing how Lamborghini’s future new model, a possible Estoque sports saloon, would be fighting for the same market.
Lamborghini Estoque Concept
The biggest problem would be in seeing the Audi A9 take the place of the Lamborghini Estoque. I can deal with the rest quite well but this I wouldn’t forgive Volkswagen for.

Mercedes and Audi plan to fight Lexus with diesel power News

In having beaten the Japanese at Lexus before, the Germans got a taster of how good it feels to lead in the U.S. market’s sales.
Audi Q7 V12 TDI
Back then, Lexus sales fell due to the immense Toyota recall but this time, Mercedes and Audi have come up with a plan to beat them on level grounds.

The idea is simple, Mercedes and Audi are to come up with something new, something that Lexus can’t compete with properly. And guess what that is supposed to be.
Mercedes Diesel V8
That’s right folks, Mercedes and Audi have decided to bring more diesel engines to the U.S. As some rejoice, the exact figures call for the two German companies to raise diesel sales in the U.S. by some 50%.
That sounds quite impressive but very doable since diesel sales are relatively small in America, particularly in the luxury segment where the three compete. Now, whereas Lexus’ hybrid models may manage better figures than mild hybrid installments from the Germans they will struggle to achieve better than some of the best refined diesel engines out there.
Audi 3.0 V6 TDI
The solution seems so appropriate it’s unbelievable, it’s got that “why didn’t we think of this before” stamp all over it.

Audi e-tron Review

I think I’ve finally become happy with Audi. I’ve generally considered them a middle of the road brand but with their latest effort I’ve seen something special in them.
Audi e-tron Auto Union toy
This is a revised Auto Union Type C featuring e-tron All-Electric Drive in toy shape and it proves that Audi’s developers know how to have fun.

In truth, this is a pretty accurate replica of the Auto Union Type C scaled down to the size of a pedal car. It’s in this 1:2 scaled car that Audi crammed lots of EV-specific tech which will offer you some power.
Audi e-tron Auto Union toy
In order to replace the pedal powered mobility, you will get an electric engine developing 1.5 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque that sends all of it power to the rear wheels. So far so good, now for the somewhat worse part, the battery.
It can give you a range of 16 miles with a top speed of 18 mph but after that you will have to plug this over sized toy in. Happily the charging isn’t very long as it will only take about two hours from a 230V socket. After that you can get back to fun in your aluminium and carbon fiber tub.
Audi e-tron Auto Union toy
I reckon in coming up with this toy, Audi’s engineers had quite a bit of fun, however as this is just a study you won’t be able to buy one.

Sport Wheels More than the Audi R8 Spyder

Ever since the Audi R8 came about it’s been quite a success. In Spyder form it’s even better if you’re not interested in the full performance.
Sport Wheels Audi R8 Spyder
That’s a no-brainer, but then again, the people working for tuning firm Sport Wheels seem to think otherwise.

This is why Sport Wheels will be offering a 600 horsepower tuning job on the Audi R8 Spyder.
And since performance these days isn’t all about power, the tuners have added quite a lot more to the regular Audi R8 Spyder than more punch.
Before we get to that, I should point out that the 600 horsepower and 580 Nm of peak torque available comes from adding a new exhaust and a few other fettling changes being made to the regular R8′s .
Sport Wheels Audi R8 Spyder
The weight saving regime is aided by lots of carbon fiber replacements for the regular components such as front and rear bumpers, brake cooling ducts, front spoiler, rear diffuser and that “taste acquiring” fixed rear wing.
The last handling updates include a complete suspension system made up of a coilover aluminium setup for the Audi R8. Add to that new set of ceramic brake calipers, new wheels and Dunlop Sport Maxx tires being wrapped around some crazy wheels.
But do you know what’s the best part about this Sport Wheels version of the Audi R8 Spyder?
No, it’s not the sum price of the upgrades that adds some 85.000 dollars to the price of the Ingolstadt flagship, it’s actually how there’s a word going round about how this whole tuning package is actually stolen off another developer.

Audi A6 2.0 TDI Overview

Audi A6 2.0 TDI front action
This is the model which Audi hopes will score a direct hit in the executive car park. Some 75 per cent of orders for the new A6 are expected to be for the entry-level 2.0-litre TDI model – so is this the strongest weapon in the BMW 5-Series rival’s armoury?

It uses an all-new platform built from an aluminium and steel mix, enabling a kerbweight up to 80kg lighter across the range than the car it replaces. The design of the bodywork itself is less ambitious, retaining strong family design cues from the recent A8 and A7 models, and plenty from the current A4. It’s crisp and impressive, if rather predictable.

The 2.0-litre TDI boasts 175bhp and 380Nm of torque, which drives the front wheels only through a six-speed manual gearbox. With an on-demand water pump, energy recovery system, stop-start and an intelligent alternator, the A6 returns 57.7mpg and emits 129g/km of CO2 – both figures are on a par with the BMW 520d.

Audi A6 2.0 TDI rear
Audi A6 2.0 TDI centre console
Although this is the entry-level A6, the four-cylinder unit doesn’t make it feel like the pauper’s choice. The strong torque delivery means it has respectable performance for a car in this class – 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds – with decent overtaking shove available at most speeds.

Although the 2.0-litre engine can’t match the smoothness or quietness of the larger V6 TDI models (which are helped by the extra ratio in the V6’s S tronic gearbox), it is still a fine long-distance companion.

Audi A6 2.0 TDI interior
Audi has worked very hard on increasing refinement, including a new slippery, aerodynamic body, and it shows. Our base-spec 2.0-litre TDI ran on the standard 17-inch wheels and tyres with steel, rather than air suspension. As a result, it offers a fine ride and handling balance. Bumps and potholes are dealt with quietly and confidently. In that respect, it’s better than some of Audi’s S line models we’ve driven before.

However, the firm’s claims of a sporty driving experience are some way wide of the mark. The new electro-mechanical steering system may be more efficient, but it offers very little connection with the road, and the chassis doesn’t feel particularly dynamic, occasionally getting caught out by mid-corner bumps at speed.
Audi A6 2.0 TDI rear seats
Even so, the 2.0-litre TDI is a more rewarding drive than the bigger diesels. Tipping the scales at only 1,575kg, you can feel the lightness in the increased agility and responsiveness it offers. As with the other new A6 models, the 2.0-litre TDI features a superbly built cabin with excellent seats and, in particular, plenty of room in the rear.

Standard specification is comprehensive for the UK market, including the superb 6.5-inch colour screen, leather seats and the Audi Drive Select control interface. At £30,145 – slightly more than a BMW 520d SE, but less than a comparable Mercedes E220 CDI Avantgarde – the new A6 makes a formidable rival.

Audi plants struggle to meet demand

http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2012-audi-a6-630.jpg
The Volkswagen Group wants to be number one in global sales, luxury sales and, hopefully, profits. In order to reach the auto sales zenith, however, Volkswagen may need to make room for more Audi production.
Bloomberg reports that Audi is struggling to meet demand for the A3 and A6, with buyers waiting three to four months to take delivery of those models. Audi sales boss Peter Schwarzenbauer tells Bloomberg that its factories are running at full throttle and that if sales continue to grow it will be “difficult to say how long it could take to reduce waiting times.”

http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2012-audi-a6-02.jpg
So why aren’t car buyers leaving Audi for the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz? The line for Germany’s other luxury makes can be just as long. All three automakers reported record sales in January, and that’s with buyers waiting up to six months for hot new vehicles like the new BMW X3. While all three German luxury struggle to keep pace with demand, experts say Audi is in the toughest spot, with wait times up to two months longer than its competitors.
Will the Volkswagen Group address the problem in a timely manner? Since Audi reportedly contributed 47 percent of VW’s overall profits for the past nine months, execs should be eager to take care of their cash cow.
