Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Review

You know what, even though it has Gullwing doors, the 2011 Mercedes SLS AMG has been described as a sedate looking vehicle.
Hamann Hawk Mercedes SLS AMG
It’s these people who Hamann are catering to with the Hawk conversion of the Mercedes SLS AMG.

In creating the Hamann Hawk the Mercedes SLS AMG got painted in a special color called Everose Gold and it received a bonnet and trunk lid from carbon fiber.
Team that with some two tone immense wheels, a carbon fiber rear wing and an oversized Hamann badge all together with a gastly interior.
Hamann Hawk Mercedes SLS AMG
Once you manage to go past the visibly childish bonnet you’ll find the same 6.2 liter AMG V8 engine only it now develops 636 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque.
Basically Hamann took the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, they made it a lot worse in how it looks and then they fiddled with the engine.
It’s this tuned up engine that trades a bit of torque for a whole lot of horsepower, enough to allow the Hamann Hawk to reach a top speed of 200 mph.
Hamann Hawk Mercedes SLS AMG
Yeah sure, the SLS gets some high-performance tires and a coilover kit which can lower it by up to 30 millimetres but that’s so not important when you look at the rest of it.
What I find particularly interesting is how Hamann plans to reveal this car in Geneva, at the actual Motor Show.

Mercedes and Audi plan to fight Lexus with diesel power News

In having beaten the Japanese at Lexus before, the Germans got a taster of how good it feels to lead in the U.S. market’s sales.
Audi Q7 V12 TDI
Back then, Lexus sales fell due to the immense Toyota recall but this time, Mercedes and Audi have come up with a plan to beat them on level grounds.

The idea is simple, Mercedes and Audi are to come up with something new, something that Lexus can’t compete with properly. And guess what that is supposed to be.
Mercedes Diesel V8
That’s right folks, Mercedes and Audi have decided to bring more diesel engines to the U.S. As some rejoice, the exact figures call for the two German companies to raise diesel sales in the U.S. by some 50%.
That sounds quite impressive but very doable since diesel sales are relatively small in America, particularly in the luxury segment where the three compete. Now, whereas Lexus’ hybrid models may manage better figures than mild hybrid installments from the Germans they will struggle to achieve better than some of the best refined diesel engines out there.
Audi 3.0 V6 TDI
The solution seems so appropriate it’s unbelievable, it’s got that “why didn’t we think of this before” stamp all over it.

Review Mercedes keeps on partying with the 2011 SL Grand

The 2011 Mercedes SL Grand is probably the last occasion the 3 pointed star company has at celebrating their 125 years of existence this side of 2011.
2011 Mercedes SL Grand Edition
But then again, there’s always room for more and since the 2012 Mercedes C Class is coming along soon and the 2012 CLS is already out there so there’s always a lot of room for more given the strong start of 2011.
Getting back to the 2011 Mercedes SL Grand it’s a pretty straight forward piece of kit.
2011 Mercedes SL Grand Edition
The Grand is available on the Mercedes-Benz SL 300, 350, and 500 versions and it costs from an extra $6.500 for the SL 500 to another $9.700 for the smaller version, the SL 300.
If you want to know what you’re paying that much for is not very impressive to everybody, there’s a couple Nappa leather seats, some door trim and steering wheel that’s finished in the same material.
2011 Mercedes SL Grand Edition
The most important bits of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SL Grand Edition are actually to be found in a redesigned AirScarf feature (the thing that blows some warm air down the back of your neck when the top is down) and a start button that’s on top of the gear level much like the SLR McLaren.

2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe will debut Geneva Motor Show

http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2012c-classcoupe05medium.jpg
Still puzzled as to why Mercedes-Benz killed off the CLK a couple of years ago? Puzzle no more, friend, for your answer is here. You see, the CLK was designed to slot in between the C-Class and E-Class sedan and wagon ranges, and was both preceded and succeeded by the E-Class Coupe. When Mercedes went back to the old formula, it made room for the vehicle you see here: the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe.
The subject of many spy shots and leaked photos, the new C-Class Coupe has finally been officially revealed by the factory ahead of its official debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. There, the new Benz coupe will arrive with two engine options: The Mercedes-Benz C250 coupe gets the 1.8-liter direct-injected turbo four with 201 horsepower, while the C350 coupe is equipped with the 304-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6. Both are mated exclusively to Mercedes’ 7-speed automatic transmission, which drives the rear wheels. 4Matic all-wheel drive will not be offered on the C-Class coupe. (The AMG version of the coupe is tipped to come along in another month at the New York Auto Show.)

So what else separates the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe from the sedan it’s based on? Two fewer doors and a slightly lower roofline. That’s about it. The C-Class coupe’s wheelbase is the same, the front end is the same, the luxury touches and the cutting-edge electronic wizardry… it’s all the C-Class we know, only coupier. Will that be enough to steal sales away from the likes of the BMW 3 Series coupe and Audi A5, both of which are more distinctly differentiated from their four-door compatriots? We’ll find out once the two-doors hit showrooms, but for now, you can scope out the official details in the press release after the jump, along with the gallery of high-resolution images below

2011 Mercedes C Class Coupe Review

Mercedes-C-Class-Coupe-2
The Mercedes C Class Coupe design even before the facelift version of the new Class C, with LED daytime running lights and fog lamps. The flight Mercedes C Class Coupe pictures also show a dual exhaust system and what appears to be a rear diffuser. We can safely assume that the Mercedes C-Class Coupé offers the same choice of engines in their sedan. This means that the Mercedes C-Class Coupé is available with two petrol and diesel engines to Daimler Blue Efficiency Technology.

At this stage, however, it is not clear whether they also offer an AMG version of Mercedes C-Class Coupé. We bet a Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe BMW M3 Coupe give someone to play with.

In Stuttgart Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster 2012 unwrapped Overview

http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2012slk07-1296742887.jpg
We were in Suttgart, Germany, this past weekend as Mercedes-Benz took the wraps of its all-new 2012 SLKRoadster. While completely redesigned, there’s no mistaking the two-seater for anything but a Mercedes-Benz – and that’s exactly what the designers had in mind, says the automaker. Gone is the SLR McLaren-inspired front hood, replaced with an aluminum unit capped by a more traditional upright radiator grille. Reappearing after an absence are the side grilles on the front quarter panels, reminiscent of those on the Benz roadsters in the 1950s (and SLS AMG, more recently). Slightly longer and wider than its predecessor, it’s an attractive package. Plus, it cheats the wind with a slippery drag coefficient of just 0.30 (the outgoing model had a 0.32 Cd).
http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2012slk09.jpg
The big news on the hard-paneled automatic drop-top (“Vario-roof”) is the innovative and uber-cool “Magic Sky Control” center panel. Unlike opaque solid steel roofs or heavily tinted glass panels (both are offered on the new SLK), the German engineers have come up with a optional trick glass panel utilizing LCD-type technology that goes from mostly clear when voltage is applied, to mostly opaque when it loses its charge. (Getting technical, it drops measured sun “intensity” from about 1050 watts with an open sky to just 200 watts when closed in “clear” mode. Switch it to “opaque” mode, and the intensity drops to about 45 watts.) While it cuts UV, infrared and visible light significantly, the panel never goes completely opaque. The roof transition takes only a few seconds (it is quicker from dark to light), initiated by a quick tap of an overhead switch.
http://dailycar.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2012slk06.jpg
Initially, the sole engine choice for our shores will be a direct-injected 3.5-liter V6 (SLK350) rated at 302 horsepower. Later, a turbocharged and direct-injected 1.8-liter four-cylinder will debut (SLK250), making 201 horsepower. We’ll likely have to wait a bit longer for the SLK55 AMG, but it promises to be an enthusiast’s delight. We’ll get a closer look at the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK next month at the Geneva Motor Show.
