This is accompanied by a mellifluous resonance-free exhaust note that is an unlikely aural congruence of, say, Lexus IS F and Roush/Yates Sprint Cup engine. It’s a four-way exhaust two sewer pipes astern and one per side, exiting just in front of the rear wheels. A restrictor plate in each side pipe lends the Boss federal pass-by legality, but the baffles can be unbolted in less time than it takes to read this review. It’s lucky that the rumble is so rich, because the engine is seriously loud at idle.
The Boss’s suspension has likewise benefited from a lavish labor of love. Compared with the GT, it boasts higher-rate springs, a fatter rear bar, new bushings, and 19-inch Pirelli P Zeros that, at the rear, are mounted on 9.5-inch-wide wheels. What’s more, each shock offers five settings that are adjustable via screwdriver, creating the possibility of very strange chassis behavior at the hands of very strange owners. Again, is Ford brave or what? And experimenting with dampers is educational and fun and will make you feel like Parnelli Jones’s crew chief.
The steering rack is electrically power-assisted and can be toggled to comfort, standard, and sport modes. We preferred standard, even at the track. The other settings felt as if they did nothing more than alter effort. No matter. The steering was ever accurate, progressive, and informative, with peerless interstate tracking.
At the front, four-pot Brembos clamp onto 14.0-inch vented rotors. The pads are near-race-spec compounds, although they don’t squeal, and the brake lines have been hardened to prevent expansion. On the road, pedal feel proved sublime—fairly hard but bang-on linear—and it was a cinch to modulate braking right on the threshold of ABS. Fade? None that we encountered during nine-tenths lapping around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
As a dance partner in the hills, the Boss eagerly goes all bossa nova, laying down its prodigious power with surprising smoothness. The chassis felt remarkably balanced, usually neutral, leaning toward power oversteer only in the tightest turns. Despite its super-quick transient responses, it never felt nervous. This Mustang is so agile, so responsive to delicate inputs, that it makes the GT500 feel like a FedEx truck. The Boss’s grip almost always exceeds the driver’s courage. What’s more, the ultra-short-throw shifter was an ally, although its gates are so close that a clumsy upshift from second will sometimes collect fifth.
Ford has forever treated its Mustangs as blue-collar contrivances of unprepossessing heritage. The cockpit thus remains dour and rudimentary, despite the Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and faux machine-turned aluminum trim. The acres of coarse pebbled-plastic surfaces, in particular, would be (and have been) rejected in far less expensive machines, notably in Ford’s own Focus. The gaping void between the top of the rear tires and the rolled fender lips is an eyesore. The steering column doesn’t telescope. And the brake and accelerator pedals should be closer.
The base Boss fetches $40,995; major options include a Torsen differential and Recaro seats (together costing $1995), plus the so-called TracKey software. If you’re headed for the track—and why wouldn’t you be?—then all are mandatory. In total, 4000 examples will be assembled, which isn’t even half of the original Boss 302’s two-year production. That sum includes 3250 base Bosses and 750 Laguna editions.
We expected the Boss 302 to be little more than a marketing exercise in nostalgia, a somewhat more brutal, slightly faster GT, with alluring graphics but primitive predilections. It isn’t. Nose to tail, this feels like a whole new equine, thoroughly sorted, conscientiously massaged, the object of considerable forethought and ambition. As automotive resurrections go, this is a knockout that venerates the original Boss while embarrassing it objectively and subjectively in every meaningful measure. What this is, is the best Mustang ever.
2011 Ford Focus Touring Car makes its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show 2011, just weeks before it is scheduled to appear on the track for the first time in a very competitive British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch. Ford Focus Touring Car, developed by the International Arena Motorsport, technical support, the first car Ford has created a global initiative for Ford to support the private teams from around the world to develop a common specification S2000 race car, so that individual groups win a big touring car classes around the world.
Team Aon car feature of the approach as flexible as possible in this program. Its features include running the 2011 season with a door Ford turbo 2.0-liter engine with local requirements, rather than the 1.6-litre Ford EcoBoost engine other teams will use in Championships in line with international FIA regulations.
The all-new Ford Focus Touring Car is the latest product of the company’s One Ford philosophy driving the development of global vehicles. It will be sold in 122 markets worldwide and manufactured in Europe, Asia and North America. As the new Ford Focus takes to race circuits around the globe, however, Ford continues to focus its ‘factory team’ efforts on its official global motor sport car and series – the Fiesta RS WRC competing in the 2011 World Rally Championship.
Somebody at Ford is really playing all his chips on the success of the 2012 Ford Focus around the world and they don’t plan on taking any chances.
Yesterday we’ve heard about how the Blue Oval is gearing up its suppliers in order to ensure production can cope with a global launch of the 2012 Ford Focus and now this.
This is the best part of the new Focus, they are making a touring car version of and it will run in the BTCC.
Apart from it being involved in a racing situation, the European branch of Ford’s marketing seriously picked this one with quite a lot of careful consideration. Picking the British Touring Car Championship as a first motorsport to target is a great idea for two reasons.
Firstly the BTCC title has been taken by the Chevrolet Cruze which is a competitor of the 2012 Ford Focus in hatchback form and secondly, the UK is one of the strongest markets the previous generations of the Ford Focus ever had.
The Ford Focus BTCC racer is an effort of the Blue Oval trying to help support privateer racing teams in such sports and the first adopter of this new car is Arena Motorsport’s UK-based Team Aon.
What I find most interesting about the 2012 Ford Focus BTCC racer is how the company claims its similarly global oriented for most of the S2000 specification racing.
While both the 2012 Ford Focus production car and the racer promise to be as global as they get, the BTCC racer will only be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.
The new Ford Territory has been made to the Australian market. The Ford Territory has served Ford Australia VERY well in it’s first 6 years of sales, Cue spy shots. There’s also some indication that buyers will be able to opt for an inline six-cylinder gasoline mill if the oil burner doesn’t quite suit their wallets. At this point, it’s unclear whether Australian buyers will get to play with the new MyFord Touch system that American buyers have been jockeying with in products like the 2011 Ford Edge.
Exterior of Ford Territory, at the front uses an all-new tri-plane front-end architecture. The new trapezoid-shaped main grille is one of the new Ford Territory’s most noticeable updates. New slim-line headlights with projector beam technology are another stand-out feature of the new Ford Territory’s frontal styling. The high-series Titanium variant takes this a step further with the introduction of LED (Light-Emitting Diode) position lamps integrated into its redesigned front bumper. At the bottom of Territory’s new face is a U-formed lower chin skid plate.
In interior of Ford Territory is displaying sporty and sophisticated. In an Australian Ford-first, the new Territory will be available with Ford’s advanced eight-inch colour touch screen – a technology milestone for an Australian-built Ford vehicle. This stylish and simple-to-use feature will be fitted to the Territory TS and Titanium models as standard equipment. The Ford Territory TX will be fitted with a 5.8-inch monochromatic display screen.
About 150,000 F-150 pickups that were manufactured in 2005 and 2006 might have airbag problem. Considering the huge risks drivers, Ford has decided to recall all the 150,000 pickup trucks. This problem was, however, not identified by Ford, but by National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), which reports about 240 cases wherein airbags went off without any reason. Ford believes that the chances of such incidents are very rare. However, the 238 cases, including 77 cases of injury, have forced Ford to recall its potentially risky pickups.
According to the incidents reported by NHTSA, there have been unusual cases of airbags failure, not following a similar path of problem. In a case, the airbag went off as soon as the vehicle was started. However, in the other incident, the airbag opened up, even when it was untouched, lying in the parkway.
According to Ford, the problem might be due to faulty installation of the airbag wire, which might cause the airbag to deploy whenever there is a short circuit. And such changes were made in the cars that were produced after 2006. So the recall is only for the vehicles that were manufactured before that.
Fiesta also drive than anything else on the road, the cars and certainly different than above. four-door subcompact hatchback is technically based on government regulations, but you would never know that is a turn-off car and the cabin quiet we experienced when driving on any type of road we could find in Los Angeles.
Powered by a line 120-hp 1.6-liter engine-4 fuel which requires only 87-octane, the mission of Fiesta is clearly not the breathtaking acceleration, but fuel economy impressive. Equipped with automatic transmission six-speed manual (a $ 1,070 option), fuel economy Fiesta rated by the EPA is 29 city/38 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined. Our average of more than 300 miles was 31 mpg, leaving a little over 2 gallons of fuel in the tank of 12 gallons of the car.
Auto Racing 60 mph with a 2011 Ford Fiesta Hatchback SES takes 10.5 seconds, the performance that places like midpack car in its segment. It stops at 60 mph in 116 feet.
Ford introduced the Fiesta 2011, hoping to capture the attention of people who have never considered a small car before, and has made available a Premium package with all the comfort and convenience you expect from a bigger car.
Part of this work is an optional six-speed automated manual instead of a traditional automatic transmission with torque converter. Others intend to implement an automatic transmission to replace conventional automatic, as it will produce fuel economy nearly as good as the manual transmission. Compared to the Fiesta five speed manual, six-speed automatic improves fuel economy 1 mpg EPA city and losing just 1 mpg highway EPA, but its EPA fuel economy is only 1 mpg less.
Why automatically, usually do not know what kind of transmission you have, so far there is no change in shock two clutch automated, and business goes on seamlessly select the right gear ratios at the appropriate time for improve fuel economy, even if you set-it-and-forget use.
At the same time the electronic program that triggers a change in its debut at Ford, as a stop-and-go traffic seemed to remove automatically. There was a time when the sentence in the passage of time does not correspond to ours and we could not predict how he would react to changes in traffic patterns. computer calls elected decision to hold a gear for the right moment, an upshift smoothly, and vice versa, providing a quick downshift to accelerate positive and sometimes lost, delayed or completely absent.
The six-speed automated manual gearbox is exactly the right type of transmission in a car like the Ford Fiesta 2011, as it offers convenience with almost no sacrifice in performance or economy of fuel. And yet we believe that this unit Powershift Ford needs a little more development. At the time of automatic Fiesta has a low-end position at the console mounted shifter and a program button down, but we think it is still necessary to provide the ability to change gears manually, and maybe even move the paddle.
2011-Ford Fiesta Ford Sync ITS benefits remarkable infotainment system that integrates wireless telephony, music (from a storage device based on cable or via Bluetooth streaming), and now what Ford calls the TDI (traffic, routes and information). TDI is through turn-by-turn voice navigation instructions that are downloaded via your mobile phone via a toll-free in the car.
At the same time, the red LED display on the center console that indicates the presence of synchronization requires a trip or two to the owner’s manual to learn the full extent of their capabilities. Ford says it designed the keyboard and others who accompany the screen to be as intuitive as a mobile phone, but are not sure that it meets the standard.
In terms of access driver and passenger comfort, the Fiesta SES provides ample space for front passengers can enjoy leather buckets for the package of $ 715 L. Meanwhile, rear passengers will find plenty of free space, and legs a little less than an average car of 31 inches. Luggage space with all seats occupied is smaller than 15 cubic feet, but the option package features the 60/40 folding rear seats, so the load capacity can be expanded to 26 cubic feet.
Perhaps the most notable quality of the Ford Fiesta is the quality which seems to have been introduced. All doors close with a reassuring thud, the body panels as well as inside and looks and feels as if it belonged to a more expensive car. This may be the intention of being an affordable car, but the interior has been designed with durability in mind.
If the safety of small cars is a concern, you will be pleased to know that the standard equipment on all Fiesta models including stability and traction control, antilock brakes and seven airbags (including driver knee airbag). Although NHTSA crash tests have not yet completed, the IIHS awarded the Fiesta sedan and hatchback its “Top Safety Pick”: first a sub-compact has never received the highest recommendation of the influential organization.
2011 New Ford EDGE, The lack of design language kept the Edge’s interior from being particularly memorable. Ford says the new Edge will have a quieter interior than the more upscale Lexus RX350, Audi Q5 and Acura MDX models.
Now, Ford has made significant changes to the outgoing model’s 3.5-liter V6 for increased power and efficiency, added a 3.7-liter V6 for the Edge Sport and added an optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder which will make it’s North American debut in the Edge.
For the first time the Edge Sport will enjoy an engine worthy of its name. Like the new 3.5-liter V6 in the base and Limited Edge models, the 3.7-liter V6 will be mounted to a six-speed automatic transmission, but unlike the standard Edge, the Sport gains class-exclusive paddle activation of the SelectShift transmission. Arguably the most important engine change for the Edge line will be the new 2.0-liter I4 EcoBoost engine — raising fuel economy by 30 percent over the original powertrain found in the Edge at launch. The Edge SEL and Limited now feature standard 18-inch wheels and the Edge Sport gains 22-inch wheels — also standard.
To help bring this hulking CUV to a hasty stop, Ford added new four-wheel disc brakes with increased stopping power. Changes include steel pistons, larger rear rotors, among other changes. The new Edge debuts Ford’s newest infotainment driver interface system, known as MyFord. Ford’s MyKey and Easy Fuel Capless fuel-filler systems are also present for the new Edge.
Great designs and innovative technology is found throughout Ford’s car lineup. Good for the current vehicle, Ford engineers are presented with a problem attempting to develop a replacement design better than the current Ford Escape. At the 2011 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the Vertrek concept vehicle is strongly hinted as the forward look at the new Escape.
A creation of what Ford describes as a kinetic design philosophy, the Vertrek concept angles towards being an aerodynamically-conscious body. A much more car-based shape, front end styling and even the roof of the Ford sport utility vehicle (SUV) concept draws unmistakable similarities to that of the new Ford Focus. Blatant in their intentions to give future buyers and auto enthusiasts a peak at the future Ford Escape (or the European Ford Kuga) form, production-readiness is apparent in the Vertrek exterior as well as interior styling.
A sign of production intent for many aspects of this concept vehicle, the Ford Vertrek’s interior appears at least 80% production ready.Ford has indicated that existing powerplants which could be considered for the Vertrek concept. Ford pledges by 2013, 90% of the products sold in the North American market will have an engine option enabling the EcoBoost technology.

2011-Ranger SuperCab 4X4 is a 4-door, up to 5 passenger compact pickup. Standard wheels are steel painted 15-inch wheels with large 16-inch cast aluminum as options. It makes 207 hp at 5,250 rpm and 238 lb-ft at 3000 rpm, a slight decrease in this request, but listening to deliver power a little lower down the rev range as befits a truck. The four-cylinder Ranger is the only one that can not be done with four-wheel drive. The braking is done with a front disc, rear drum set-up, with standard ABS. All Rangers have a capacity 1260 pounds of payload. Towing capacity ranges from £ 1580 for a maximum of £ 5,800.
Forget the Fusion, Ford is making a move to bring the Mustang to Nascar’s Sprint Cup Series. Ford has informed NASCAR decisionmakers that it wishes to begin racing the Mustang in the highest level of left-turning motorsports.
Replacing the Fusion is a process that could take all year, and Ford is required to show that the Mustang is a competitive equal to the cars it will race against. The reason behind the move is that Ford wants to show fans they can buy a car right off the showroom floor that mimics the one they watch every weekend on TV.
As fans of the roundy round are already aware, the Blue Oval already races a Mustang stock car in NASCAR – in the Nationwide Series. The pony car shown above made its competition debut last July during the Subway Jalapeno 250 at Daytona International Speedway.
We understand you can’t purchase the same exact Mustang that will be hunting down rival racers around the county. In fact, we already know that you won’t be able to purchase anything like a Sprint Cup Mustang for street use. But Ford knows that millions of people tune-in and show up to support their favorite drivers and brands. At least on some level, adding the Mustang to the mix makes more sense since the production car provides real driving thrills for its owners. Besides, unlike the Fusion, it’s actually available in a coupe bodystyle like those used in NASCAR.
It’s been a great year for the brand new 2011 Ford Explorer as it’s selling so good it got a 244% increase for last month.
Ford can be proud, but they shouldn’t get too much of a bragging moment because their successful SUV is headed for a recall.
Those annoying life-saving guys at the NHTSA have just issued a notice on their website in which they say Ford is already calling in some of the 2011 Explorers.
This is because some of the buyers chose the manual controls for the reclining second row seats.
As you can guess for yourself, it’s not really a big problem but it may actually turn into a safety issue for the passengers in that particular row of seats.
The recall has affected 1.658 units of the 2011 Ford Explorer, all built between July 15, 2010 and December 13, 2010.
Ford announced that they will begin this recall as early as February the 14th, with dealers inspecting the mechanism of the seats and, where necessary, replace it free of charge.
I know safety is not conceived as being funny but I just can’t help myself in saying that it serves the owners right, what sort of Americans are they if they chose to do something manually instead of having it powered somehow?
Abu Dhabi World Rally team will have no surprises to reveal when they reach for the World Rally Championship, as the world now knows what they are racing with. Fordofficially releases the specifications of the new Fiesta that will run for the Abu Dhabi team.
The mechanics has been designed by M-Sport, which is also known to have designed some of the fastest machines on track. However, there are no drastic changes in the S2000 car, and is more or less the same it was during the recent Monte Carlo Rally held in 2010. Only the weight has been reduced, and some minor adjustments have been made to boost the performance.
The car carries four-cylinder engine with a horsepower of 300 and 330 pound-feet torque. Yet, even when the car has to carry a full time drive configuration, it weighs only about 2,645 pounds, which will certainly work in favor of the driver.
To quickly revive what the car has got, its equipped with 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine, Brembo brakes, X-Trac sequential transmission with six speeds, 300 bhp and a 2.1 steering rack. With such a powerful configuration, Ford Fiesta would be one of the favorites, if not the team.
As I’ve been saying before, the Ford F150 is the world’s best selling car for years and years now so it’s not like nobody’s heard of it.
Also as I’ve been saying before, Ferrari launched their 2011 Formula 1 racer and as a celebration of their 150 years of existence they called it the F150.
See the problem?
How about if I told you that Ford has made up the paperwork and submitted it to court against Ferrari for the naming/branding issue.
You see, in being real, not even the dopiest of dopes would have confused the massive Ford F150 pickup they see on a daily basis with a Ferrari F150 racer that they would never see.
That hasn’t put off Ford though, and there’s a very good reason for that. Ford and Ferrari have had their differences over the decades and the most important of which spawned the Ford GT40 and the Ford GT.
Both of these cars are historic landmarks for Ford and will be kept in the hearts of many perhaps more than those of certain Ferrari models.
Getting back to the current pickup versus F1 racing problem, Ferrari immediately replied to the Ford in typical Italian fashion. Apparently the name Ferrari F150 is actually an abbreviation of the real name which is the Ferrari F150h Italia.
Something that hasn’t been mentioned for the most part or at all in some cases by the Italians. Even so, the waters seem to have calmed down now but you never know what tomorrow holds for Ford.
It’s been a long time to feel the pleasure of driving a small car in India. However, now it’s time to have fun driving such cars since Ford has recently launched the Figo. Based on the 2002-2008 European Fiesta platform, Ford Figo covers some similar features like its stable-mates – Fiesta Sedan and Fusion. Also, Figo is been developed by the developers of Fiesta Sedan. In India, the sales of premium hatchbacks have risen up due to the popularity of diesel variants and so Figo is now available in both diesel and petrol variants. Ford Figo is available in the market with a choice of two outstanding engines. The one which is of petrol is powered by 1.2 litre mill. The engine is specially designed for India to make a fuel efficient car. The engine gives 71bhp @ 6250 rpm and 102Nm @ 4000rpm. To improve the fuel efficiency, Ford has geared the ratios on the taller side by providing good amount of space.
Apart from first engine, the other engine is 1.4 litre Duratorq diesel. This engine is also installed in Fiesta, Ikon, Fusion, albeit, but some modifications are needed to make it BS-IV compliant. The engine does not offer much power like its rivals, but has the capacity to provide 68 bhp @ 4000rpm and 160Nm @2000rpm. However, Figo is quite comfortable and easy to drive than other diesel engine cars in its range. Ford Figo has high fuel efficiency, but do not have turbo lag. In fact, one will not even feel of kicking-in the turbo.
The steering of this car is quick, accurate and well-weighted. On the other hand, diesel also offers petrol like feeling while driving. In diesel Figo, the steering is a little heavy as compared to the petrol variant. Both the variants have among the best ride-handling setups out of all superminis available in the market.
Instead of making a luxurious, full of features car, Ford has concentrated on the things that matters more to make a better car. Figo does not have climate control, but has the most powerful AC in its range. One can play songs directly from a pen-drive or mobile phone that can be imported via Bluetooth.
The performance is average, and the overall package is properly tuned for a 1.2 motor. As far as the color is concerned, this car has got attractive paint on its body. Also, the interior gives sporty look with stitching on the seats.
Ford Figo, base petrol 1.2 LXI is available at price of Rs. 4.12lakh on road, which is rising up to Rs. 5.20lakh for its Titanium model, whereas, for base 1.4 LXI, diesel Figo is available at Rs. 5.23lakh. At the top most level, Titanium variant is about to rise up to Rs. 6.20lakh.
According to Bloomberg, the Ford Explorer can thank Alan Mulally for its stay of execution. When the former Boeing executive took the helm at FoMoCo, the powers that be urged him to make a decision on the then-ancient SUV. Mulally said that the nameplate could live on, but only if the company’s engineers could find a way to seriously cut weight and increase fuel economy at the same time. The new vehicle was not only able to meet those demands, but was able to offer a larger package with much of the same off-road ability as well.
That meant sacrificing the body-on-frame blue print for a unibody design and exploring alternative engine solutions – engines like the upcoming Ecoboost four-cylinder. In the end, the Blue Oval boys were able to shed 100 pounds off the platform.
Ford has since interpreted that same quest for svelteness into a company-wide strategy, and Bloombergsays that the Dearborn automaker is now on par with automakers like BMW when it comes down to aggressively stripping weight from a vehicle.
