Mahindra TR40 Pickup Review

It is not quite easy to perceive and to believe that Indian leading manufacturer of utility vehicles and trucks, Mahindra, could launch a pickup truck with missing its economy target by about one-third. This is the same manufacturer, who has its US distributor as Global Vehicles of Ga, Marietta.
The fuel economy agency, FuelEconomy.gov has mentioned that Mahindra’s new TR40 Pickup delivers an economy of 19 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. This pickup surely has missed something. However, when you compare it with its counterparts, you might change your perception. 4×4 Dodge Dakota, which has a 3.7L, V6 engine is rated at 14 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. Ford F-150 fares slightly better on the highway with economy of 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway. However, Ford Ranger too, like Dodge Dakota, misses the target with economy 14/18.
Let’s talk about its capacity. Mahindra TR40 Pickup has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds and its payload capacity is about 3,765 pounds.
Both GV and Mahindra had the aim of hitting the American roads with an economy advantage. But what is currently offers might not allure the buyers, especially when they have scores of domestic options.
However, for Mahindra, there is some good news in the store. Its rivals, Dodge and Ford, have planned to quit the truck market. So, consumers who first had several options to choose from, now have limited variety, and one of them is Mahindra TR40 Pickup, which is trying to add more 9 mpg mileage by stripping out the all-4-drive system.
Mahindra had tied up with GV a few years ago in 2006. Mahindra has been doing well in the Indian markets, and is one of the leaders in SUV and Pickup segment. However, the JV doesn’t seem to be working too well for both the partners, at least until now. But the game might just change, after two of its major rivals planning to quit.
