The 2010 Hyundai ix35 is Hyundai’s latest compact SUV, replacing the previous Tucson model with sharp new looks and a far broader brief. That is to take on existing small SUVs and crossovers, such as the Ford Kuga and Nissan Qashqai, but also to pinch sales from small MPVs such as the Ford C-Max, and even mainstreams hatchbacks like the new Vauxhall Astra. The new ix35 provides individual comfort for all passengers. Standard air conditioning features easy-to-use manual temperature control, with separate adjustable vents for front and back seat passengers.
The Hyundai ix35 is longer and wider than the previous Tucson, but is slightly lower. It rides on a 2,640 mm wheelbase which is 10 mm up. Alongside the ix35 will be the significantly-revised Santa Fe, which benefits from a wide range of engineering and cosmetic changes to fine-tune the driving experience and make it even more competitive versus rival D-segment SUVs.
The new Hyundai ix35 is the first car that has been shaped according to Hyundai’s “fluidic sculpture” design language. The shapes look like waves, as if the car was sculpted by the wind. The dynamic, and at the same time formal looks, give the ix35 some resemblance to SUVs from luxury brand Infiniti! Especially when seen straight from the front, the ix35 has a tough, self-assured look.
Inside, the ix35 not only feels substantial, but also exudes quality. The materials used are high quality and there’s a real attention to detail, from the subtle blue backlighting to the Audi-esque leather stitching. Inside, the Hyundai ix35 offers the latest in seating design and technology. The driver’s seat offers six-way electric adjustment plus electric lumbar support, allowing taller drivers to find a comfortable driving position.
The Hyundai ix35 enters the market with an unmatched level of equipment. Two trim levels are available – Style and Premium – which offer the most comprehensive list of standard items in the segment and better the offering of any C segment or MPV competitor. The ix35 is based on the ix-onic Concept car, and is offered with a number of engine options. The petrol family is made up by a 163 HP Theta-II 2.0 with 197 Nm of torque and a 140HP Gamma 1.6 GDI with 167 Nm of torque. The ix35 should also be one of the first cars from Hyundai to feature their new double clutch six speed transmission. The ix35, then, represents a bold move forward for Hyundai with big strides in both exterior design and mechanical technology.
The new Hyundai ix35 will get the newest fuel-efficient engines and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Western European customers will be offered a choice of two thrifty and clean-burning petrol engines: the Theta-II 2.0 rated at 166ps and 20.1kg.m of torque which emits just 178 g/km (2WD MT) of CO2 and the Gamma 1.6 GDI delivering 140ps and 17kg.m of torque, available from November 2010, which delivers only 158 g/km of CO2.

The new iX35 also comes with a variety of innovations for fuel economy and low emissions. The newest developed fuel efficient engines give the iX35 all the power you need, while delivering CO2 emissions as low as 139 g/km on the 1.7 CRDi with intelligent Stop and Go technology function.
Around corners the Electronic Stability Control takes care of you if you get out of shape and does so quickly. It’s worth noting here and commending Hyundai for including a whole range of safety features in the ix35 standard across the range. With Six airbagas + active front headrests, ESC Stability Control + TCS + ABD + EBD, Downhill Brake Control (DBC) and Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) all standard on the base model.
The 2010 Hyundai ix35 prices start at £16,495 for the 2WD petrol engined Style model and £17,995 for the 2WD Style diesel. Diesel prices then go up by £1,000 for 4WD and £1,750 to get the Premium pack, topping out at £20,745.
